THE FILM

Sometimes a film is brought to life by the fans. But it still must have a purpose

The first ideas of what Sacrifice would be came out of the original story phase for Fallen Star. When writing the story for Fallen Star, I needed to know the entire life of our main character, Rokari, and her eventual dark side, Abeloth. I mapped out a story that took us from the cast out mother we see in Fallen Star, to her eventual imprisonment we hear about both in a previous project, The Last Guardian, and also in Star Wars expanded universe lore. I didn't want this to be a simple story of her going crazy and losing her mind to the darkness more and more.  I wanted her to truly have a mothers struggle to try to get back to her family. While mapping it out, I found so many rich stories that could be told about her if we were to go forward. But the plan was never to continue forward. Fallen Star was the last fan film that Parish Productions was going to for quite some time,

What happened was something unprecedented. While we always hoped for a strong response to Fallen Star, we didn't expect to have quite as strong response as we got. There was a strong demand from viewers to know what happens next. Where does Rokari/Abeloth go? The response to people was always the same that we did know what happens to her and someday we might tell those future stories, but we were on to other things now. But the questions didn't stop. And that's when the idea was hatched. While we didn't have the time to bring another feature length chapter to life, we could do chapters as shorts. Filling in the story in small chunks, each one focusing on a different aspect of the journey. And so Sacrifice was born.

Sacrifice would have the job of introducing the next level of evolution for Rokari/Abeloth as she continues her decent into darkness. We wanted to explore the effects of consuming souls is having on her and show that while the monster is there, the mother very much so is to. We were going to peel back the first layer to show that there is so much more to this monster then people know. The question everyone has to ask is, can the mother overcome the monster?

THE FACTS

It takes a team to make a film

There is absolutely no way to compare Fallen Star and Sacrifices productions. They are almost polar opposites to each other. While Fallen Star was shot completely in a virtual set, Sacrifice was shot completely in the real world. Where Fallen Star had crazy forest fire visuals and ancient temples, Sacrifice was focused entirely on an island at night. Fallen Star showed a world collapse into chaos. Sacrifice was showing the scary, cold darkness of loneliness. Sacrifice needed to have a different feel from Fallen Star. When it picks up, Rokari/Abeloth is not the same person we last saw in Fallen Star. She has turned cold, calculating, manipulative. We wanted the environment to feel like it was a bit of an expression of her. But just because this was shot practically, doesn't mean it was any less challenging. Below are some of the facts.

  • Filming took place over 3 nights in July 2025 on a remote island.

  • Keira Wolfe shot the entire film with a vest gimble system, attached to a DJI RS3 with a Canon C200 mounted on it.

  • Due to being a remote location, all lighting had to be run off batteries. Everything for filming was battery powered as the nearest source of power was a boat ride away.

  • The entire Abeloth makeup design was changed from Fallen Star, revealing a more refined look that rid the true horror, but still gave hints of it, This was done to show a growth in Abeloth. As she turned more manipulative, she had to hide her true form, or else everyone would just see the monster.

  • An entirely new alien species was created for the character of Nymara. Mads Carrick spent 4 hours in makeup to transform into the character.

  • Fight training lasted 1 month before cameras rolled

  • No injuries took place, minus a few bumps and bruises

THE MYTHOLOGY

Making the galaxy your own

As with previous Star Wars Fan Films from Parish Productions, Sacrifice is set in a timeline of its own, giving huge freedoms to do and create whatever we want without having to fight with the idea of if it fits into canon. We create our own canon. Fallen Star is set roughly 10,000 years before The Phantom Menace, with the Jedii order being more of a cult then the Jedi order we will come to know. Sacrifice picks up a few years after the events of Fallen Star.

The Jedii order was less organized then the future Jedi order, with temples scattered on almost every known world. Each temple would have a Jedii Guardian and Padawan watching over it, while the people looked up to them as gods because of their powers. This created a strong feeling that the ordinary people of the galaxy were just that, ordinary, and below the Jedii. However this doesn't mean that some in the order didn't still cling to the beliefs of defending and protecting. Merely that the order viewed itself in a much less selfless light.

Outside our known dimension, the beings known as The Ones existed. They consisted of the The Father, Son and Daughter. These beings were comprised of the Force and lived on a special world on their own. Very little is known about The Ones besides the fact that they represent the force. The Son is the dark side, the daughter is the light and the father is the balance between the two. They have the ability to transform into creatures and no mortal is threat to them.

Horror stories began to spring up after the destruction of a settlement on the moon Nimbus II and the nearby Jedii temple. The natives of the planet said that the devil had come, Abeloth, and hunted down what she called "False Gods", while feeding on anyone that got in her way. Not long after, other settlements with Jedii temples started to suffer the same fate. Not sure what his threat was, the Jedii council sent several Jedii off to distant worlds to protect ancient relics and maps that could be disastrous if they fell into the wrong hands. One of these relics is rumored to be a star map that leads to the Ones....
